Repairing figures part 1; Removing sticky residue from your figures.

Hello all,

Welcome to the first part of my repairing figures series, today we will talk about removing the sticky residue from your figures.

When figures are stored in a box for a long time, without being taken out or being ventilated, they can get a sticky layer on them. This sticky layer is caused by the plasticizer, which is used in the production of the anime figures. The plasticizer is used to make the PVC softer and more flexible. When the figure ages the plasticizer evaporates and gives the sticky layer on the PVC when it's not well ventilated or in direct sunlight (for some reason the evaporation of the plasticizer speeds up when the anime figures are in direct sunlight.

To remove this sticky layer of plasticizer you can leave the figure in a tile of water with soap for some time. Don't use hot water since this will make the figure vulnerable for bending. Lukewarm/cold water is just fine. When finished you can gently rinse down the figure to prevent soap residue. Ather that gently dry it with a soft cloth.

I bought this Nendoroid secondhand and it had been stored all the time in its box. Like can be seen in the first two photos there is some weird shine on this figure. I used regular washing soup, in a quite concentrated solution. After a night of bathing, the stickiness was

gone :)

Mission completed!

Next part of this series will be about removing paint transfers, which will be posted soon
